Expected topics include:
- What is a patent?
- What are the different types of patents, and how are they different from copyrights and trademarks?
- How can you get a patent?
- How much does it cost to get/keep a patent?
- Once you have a patent, what can you do with it?
- What are the benefits (and drawbacks) of applying for a patent?
Facilitator: Candice R. Jones, Attorney
Candice Jones focuses her practice at Finnegan Law’s DC Office on patent litigation, patent prosecution, and client counseling in the areas of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. She also has a particular interest in the medical device industry. She attended Howard University School of Law (J.D., 2016), Georgetown University (M.S., Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, 2006) and Hampton University (B.S., Biology, honors, 2001).
As part of Finnegan’s trademark pro bono program, Candice successfully secured trademark representation for Capital Youth Empowerment Program and assisted with filing trademark application. As part of the firm’s criminal pro bono program, she actively assists with cases related to the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project. Candice is an active contributor and participant with Finnegan’s diversity and inclusion initiatives. She was named to the 2017 Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll in recognition to her volunteer service.
