Artificial Intelligence and the Arts: IP Rights, Legal Challenges, and Opportunities
June 25, 2025 • Washington, DC
Event Summary
Join the D.C. Bar Intellectual Property Law Community and a panel of experts from Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts for a compelling discussion on the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and the arts. As AI technologies continue to advance, they are transforming the creative industries and raising complex legal questions. This program will examine how AI is affecting visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers, and other creatives, and will explore the legal challenges surrounding the use of copyrighted material in training AI models. Panelists will discuss whether scraping the internet for training data constitutes fair use or infringement, the potential for collective licensing solutions, and the rights and risks associated with AI-generated works. The conversation will also address how creators can exploit their AI-assisted works, the limitations they may face in licensing, and the exposure to third-party claims. Join us for an engaging and timely conversation on the legal implications of AI in the creative world and what it means for the future of intellectual property. Networking and light hors d'oeuvres included.
