WALA’s Creative Entrepreneurs Series is a series for creatives of all kinds who want to take the next step in their professional career by creating their own business. Explore the basics of forming a business for your creative endeavors, from deciding whether to incorporate as a non-profit or for-profit entity, to understanding copyrights and trademarks, to contract and negotiation skills, and finally to estate planning for artists and creatives and understanding the grants process.

Edward A. Fultz was born in the country of Panama and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a graduate of Morehouse College and Howard University School of Law. Currently, he is a mid-level associate in the Entertainment and Media Industry Group at Reed Smith in the Washington, D.C. office. He practices in all aspects of advertising, marketing, promotions, and brand protections. His focus centers on the intersection of privacy, advertising, and intellectual property.

This includes the review of advertising materials, and regulatory review of promotional activities such as sweepstakes, contests, and other prize promotions. He is involved with the network clearance for commercials, and provides guidance in the application of video games, NFTs, the metaverse, and Web3.

He drafts trademark and copyright applications and maintain registrations, analyze clearance opinions for risk assessments of trademarks, and draft cease and desist letters, which includes the prosecution and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

He drafts, reviews, and negotiates a range of agreements, including designer brand agreements, endorsement and talent agreements, and influencer guidelines. In addition, I draft a variety of music contracts including mastering, producing, and royalties.

Outside the firm, he is a DJ (DJ Esq.), hosting a variety of professional and social events in the Washington D.C. area.

He is a Co-Host for The Common Nomad Podcast: https://www.thecommonnomad.co/, where he discusses the social dynamics and nuances of friendships.

He is the Founder and President of Fathers Are In The Home (FAITH), a 501(c)(3) non-profit chess organization where he mentors and instructs K-12 on the game of chess and how it relates to life.

More importantly, he is engaged to the beautiful Loriel Pinckney, who is the Founder and CEO of Ausome Genius, a for-profit enterprise that assists parents with children diagnose with autism. Their mission is “a child with autism has the same ability as any other child. It may take longer for children with autism to learn, understand, and communicate, but they can and will. They are an Ausome Genius.”
