WALA at DC Shorts Fall Film Festival

September 8 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free

WALA is proud to team up with the DC Shorts Fall Film Festival on Friday, September 8, 2017, for two exciting events:

“Pitching, Pitching & More Pitching!”

Entertainment Law for Filmmakers

11:00-12:30 PM

E Street Cinema /  555 11th Street, NW

Instructors: Brian Frankel (Chair, Education Committee, WALA), Sandra Aistars (Clinical Professor, Antonin Scalia Law School, GMU), John Mason (Board President, WALA)

We’ve all heard horror stories about someone’s brilliant idea being stolen. When pitching your ideas to funders and executives, it’s important to know how to protect what is protectable “because ideas aren’t protected by copyright law.” Join the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts as we navigate a discussion about copyright, trademark, fair use, and licensing.

 Intellectual Property Drop-In Clinic

12:30-2:00 PM

E Street Cinema /  555 11th Street, NW

Sponsors: Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts, Antonin Scalia Law School, GMU Law

Join us for a drop-in clinic on Intellectual Property with a team of IP law students from the Antonin Scalia Law School, George Mason University. IP Law Students under the supervision of Sandra Aistars, Clinical Professor of Law, will conduct intake interviews to help filmmakers: (1) determine the scope and nature of legal help they might need; (2) determine if they might need a referral to an attorney within WALA’s system; and (3) explain qualifications for pro bono and low bono legal services from WALA.

Use code “WALADC” to receive free admission.  For more information, and to reserve tickets, visit www.dcshorts.com
